Liverpool Fans Question Salah After Quiet Display in Community Shield Loss

LONDON, Aug 3 Mohamed Salah faced criticism from Liverpool supporters after a subdued performance in Sunday’s FA Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace at Wembley.

The match, which opened the 2025-26 English season, ended 2-2 before Palace claimed a 3-2 win on penalties. Hugo Ekitike put Liverpool ahead inside four minutes, but Jean-Philippe Mateta equalised from the spot soon after. Jeremie Frimpong restored the lead for the Reds before Ismaila Sarr’s late strike forced a shootout.

While new signings Florian Wirtz and Ekitike impressed, Salah struggled to make an impact in the summer heat. Fans on social media noted the 33-year-old’s reduced pace and involvement, with some suggesting the team now relies more on Frimpong’s runs than Salah’s attacking output.

Salah’s frustrations showed late on when he was booked for pulling back Eberechi Eze, and he then missed his penalty in the shootout. Statistics from StatMuse highlighted his lack of influence: no big chances created, no successful dribbles, no accurate crosses and no duels won.

The Egyptian has yet to score or assist in any appearance at Wembley since debuting there in 2017. He will aim to improve when Liverpool begin their Premier League campaign at home to Bournemouth on Aug. 15.
